The time honored tradition of making a Christmas list has definitely evolved now that I’m an adult. When I was my kids’ age, I asked for animals: a puppy, a pony, a unicorn. When I was a teenager I asked for a boombox and a typewriter (jeez — Just saying boombox and typewriter makes me feel old…ish). Now, as a mom and mostly full grown adult, I settle for much less on my adult Christmas list. It’s simple and not flashy but it makes me happy. Unless, you’re Husband in which case you better go Jack Pearson and get me something fabulous and thoughtful.
(You’ll notice sleep isn’t on my list cause let’s be f*cking real. I haven’t slept since 2011. And I’m pretty sure there isn’t a man in any colored suit that could change that — unless of course he has keys to a hotel room in which case, hellooooo stranger.)
What about you? What is on your adult Christmas list?
A PERSonal stylist
Don’t get me wrong, I still love shopping but I hardly ever get to the mall — because kids in case you missed that. I also think other people probably know how to dress me better than I do because my go to is leggings. This is where Stitch Fix comes in. I can’t say enough good things about this service. The profile is fun to fill out and the more you get from them, the better your stylist knows you and your taste which means what they send gets better every time. Also, saying I have a stylist makes me feel fancy AF.
MIXTILES
Let’s be cliché here. I’m a mom and I love pictures of my family. I love them even more when I don’t have look through all my pictures and drive to Walmart to print them out. Instead I can use my online photo album with all the pretty pictures (aka Instagram) and they’ll come straight to my door.
SPORTS BRAS
Nope. Not glamorous. I told you — my adult Christmas list is way simple and on the off chance that I start working out this year, I need sports bras. Up until this point I had sworn off the trouble that is exercising, but since I’ve started a Sexy Chair Dancing Class and some PopSugar fitness videos (2019 will be my year), I’m going to need some support.
SKINCARE
Skincare in my younger days was a bar of soap and a prayer. I didn’t care much, if at all about taking care of my skin so to say I’m a convert is an understatement. Now, I own my own skincare franchise and I get it. Skincare isn’t just about looking better, it’s about feeling better. Taking care of my skin every day is a metaphor for taking care of my whole self. It is one of the only damn times a day where I do something JUST for me, where for a few minutes of the day, I concentrate on myself and pamper ME — and it is divine. (Oh, and also. My lashes!!)
BECOMING BY MICHELLE OBAMA
I like reading. It takes me a good 6 months to get through a book these days but I still get excited about the possibility of curling up on the couch and being left alone for an hour to read… as unrealistic as it sounds. A mom can dream, can’t she? (If you haven’t heard the Super Soul Sunday with Michelle and the big O (Oprah 😍) it’s soooo worth the listen.
A SUBSCRIPTION TO O Magazine
There are few people that can inspire me as much as Oprah. I’ve lived abroad for 8 years. Oprah’s magazine never shipped to DR and doesn’t ship to Mexico, and you know what? I still subscribe to that magazine. I get it twice a year — when I go home and when my mom comes to visit. It doesn’t matter that I’m reading September’s issue in January, that magazine makes me feel warm inside and I’ll read it wherever I am in whatever darn month I get it. And you should too.
MAGNETIC BOOKMARKS
It doesn’t get more exciting than this, people. This is the epitome of an adult Christmas list. Let’s move on.
Fuzzy Slippers
I was wrong. The fuzzy slipper and cozy sock category might take the adult Christmas list prize. Although, if I’m honest, I have always loved warm feet and ridiculous slippers.
Time
And of course, no adulting wish list would be complete without needing some time away. If you’ve used AirBNB you know it’s fabulous. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? I often find it’s less expensive or equal to staying in a hotel and you have more space and a kitchen. Get yourself or someone special a gift card and let them decide where they’ll go for their adult time.
